Spring time sure has been springing here in Idaho! The weather has been making it a real challenge to schedule anything on the trail, but despite that fact I’ve still been getting out between storms to get the mile and smiles. I’m even working on making it a more regular thing to hold “open hikes” once a month on SECOND SUNDAYS. I most imagine the time of day will have to change as we enter the hot Summer months, so it’s possible we’ll be having sunrise or sunset sessions out there.

I’ve jokingly said I’m out so often that you can just stand in the parking lot and yell my name real loud if you want to go on a hike…and while that really is true sometimes, especially in summer and on the weekends, I figure it might be nice to have an established time and place for folks to meet up casually without the commitment to any big hike.
So stay tuned to the Ersity of Was facebook page for updates on those and other upcoming events!
In the meantime, I was very fortunate to meet up with a previous visitor to campus along with a small group for a hike to one of the small named peaks on the Idaho Owyhee front – Elephant Butte!
Originally we’d wanted to visit the waterfalls, but the weather had other plans! Not to be thwarted by a little rain – that turned out to be a lot of rain! – I offered an alternative hike to the top of the butte as I knew the route would be a little less muddy even though elevation was involved. It ended up being a great choice! While it was only a short hike, we were rewarded with great views in every direction and even took time to rest in a small half cave near the summit for coffee and snacks.

I really love sharing this place with others that appreciate its magic! If you’ve been wanting to get out into nature more, even if it’s just for a short stroll, it would be an honor to give you the tour of the Ersity of Was! I don’t charge people “just to go for a hike” – although donations are very welcome! – so don’t think there’s any big cost of admission here. We’re here to share in the glory of the outdoors, and I never want money to be an obstacle to that. I’ll publish more details about that topic in the coming weeks – but in the meantime, if you’re in or visiting Southwest Idaho and want to go for a hike: Get in touch!!
